On the inside, the single bar radiators were too weak to offset the chill coming off the glass, causing interior condensation. "You would go in on a January day and put your hand on that wall and it would be soaking wet," says Olcott. "It was so bad that right after the building opened Kahn installed drip pans because water would run down the mullions and collect in these pans."

As at the Yale buildings, keeping the ceiling clean was a priority. "They became a sacred plane in the office floors, nothing could protrude below those vierendeel trusses," Hollenberg says. (Named after Belgian engineer Arthur Vierendeel, such trusses are able to remain stable without diagonal bracing, allowing Kahn to create an open floorplan under a square grid.) He had more room between the trusses and the slabs of the floor above, but because new chilled beams and lighting systems would still be visible, they had to be chosen and laid out with care. "We had little clues from old night shots which indicated how the lighting was laid out."

In certain driving conditions when using the automatic engine stop/start function, the starter motor fuse may blow, preventing the car from restarting when necessary.

Though thermoformed ceiling elements can be used for any one of their several beneficial characteristics, they provide especially good value when used to meet several requirements simultaneously. Server farms are a case in point. Thermoformed ceilings enclose the aisles between racks of computer servers and allow the aisles to be used as air plenums to exhaust heated air. Transparent drop-out panels are used to allow both light fixtures and sprinklers to be located above the aisles and out of the way of technicians servicing the equipment. Both economical and practical, thermoformed ceilings are a good solution overall.

The turbocharged vehicles have a right parking brake cable that may contact the fuel tank, wearing away the tank’s protective coating. Without the protective coating, the fuel tank may rust and leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

The Overdrive 1X with TrimLite, model number KS6CSODQC, was sold in two sizes 48 cm and 56 cm. The standard 1X with TrimLite control system, model number KS6CSFXQL, was sold in three sizes 42 cm, 52 cm and 60 cm. The Chaos 1X control system, model number KS6CSCHFX, measures 44 cm. The model numbers are located on a cloth tab attached to the bungee line restrainers at the end of the bars.

The integral steel cable that secures the rubber seal to the bulkhead might have been damaged due to the supplier rework of the rubber seal. In the event the rubber seal is not properly secured around the engine compartment, it is possible for it to stick to the hood when it is opened and then fall into the engine bay when the hood is closed.

We covered several LED announcements leading into L+B and that technology was on display. The rug—an element that’s more often a finishing touch than a jumping-off point for a space—provided the design direction for this dramatic dining room and bar in Cherry Hills Village. “It took about a year to get [the floorcovering] finished,” says Andrea Schumacher, principal of Andrea Schumacher Interiors. But once the rug’s pattern, color, and scale were dialed in, the room’s high-contrast palette of sleek black walls and floors, white countertops and columns, and warm wood accents fell quickly into place. “The idea for the house was bringing the Hamptons to Colorado—with a twist of glam,” Schumacher says of the project she collaborated on with Alvarez Morris Architectural Studio. That East Coast vibe comes from wood-slat wall paneling—painted a matte black hue—and crisp-white marble slabs that cover the bar area’s long countertop and high cocktail table. Organic elements, including custom walnut cabinets by Abacus Cabinetry and a live-edge-wood dining table, create a Colorado connection. As for the glamour? Schumacher designed a set of black-velvet-upholstered dining chairs that are “not too stuffy and a little sexy,” she says. Champagne-colored flecks in their fabric add “a lot of texture without a lot of color,” she adds—and complement the antique brass accents she employed to warm up the room: Apparatus’ Highwire Tandem chandelier, leggy bar stools, and decorative vessels on the bar’s open shelves. Add a glass-walled wine room and custom hanging rack for glasses, and this design has fine dining nailed.

You did not need to take the S-Bahn out into the middle of the Fair to find some of the biggest IoT stories. Osram occupied its traditional space near the main entrance in Hall 2 or the Festhalle and featured its new IoT platform called Lightelligence in the large space. And Philips Lighting (soon to be Signify; https://bit.ly/2HzAIEu) occupied the entire Forum building next door with the new Interact IoT platform as a key theme. There was never a sparsity of traffic in those halls.

LED driver manufacturer Fulham is also a Silvair partner. At L+B, Fulham demonstrated a dedicated Bluetooth module that can control a 0–10V-compatible driver, and also a new 40W LED driver that can optionally integrate a Bluetooth module. LED manufacturer Bridgelux also showed some Bluetooth technology — more on that a bit later.
